Annual Report
Eliza James - Director

Eliza James - Director: 20 years experience in the corporate and social fields, which culminated in taking on the exciting challenge of directorship at the ASF. I completed my Associate in Management Programme at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business in 2005 and hope to embark on an MBA programme sometime in the future. The biggest highlight of my life was a meeting with Dr Nelson Mandela. My proudest moment surfaces every once in a while: that of being able to gaze upon my 3 children (Melissa = 25, Daniel = 22 & Courtney =11yrs). My greatest hope for mankind is that every person be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. My aim at the ASF is to continue and grow the reach and impact of the organisation, to awaken the desire and facilitate the opportunity for our youth to be the best that they can possibly be.

Lynette Daniel - Sponsor Secretary Lynette Daniel - Sponsor Secretary: After school did a secretarial course and followed this up with a public relations course - also did a Life Line Course. Worked for Management at Old Mutual Head office for 5 years and thereafter as Assistant Secretary to the CEO of BP Southern Africa until 1986 when I left to have a baby. My daughter aged 24, completed her studies at the University of Cape Town in 2009. I joined the amazing ASF team in 1994 as Sponsor Secretary, where I am primarily responsible for liaising with and managing our database of generous sponsors. I have watched ASF grow in leaps and bounds under the leadership of Margaret Elsworth and would like to see it continue to flourish under the guidance of our new director, Eliza James. My other great passion is golf – and a hole in one still eludes me!

Nobathembu Rululu – FET Bursary Manager: 12 years experience in working with school learners and FET college students. Completed National Diploma in Office Management and Technology at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. I strive to provide high-quality information, advice and guidance to our students to equip them with the life skills they need to start out on their chosen career path and to meet the many challenges of the working world. It is my passion to provide the youth with career guidance to enable them to make informed choices between academic and vocational courses. It was a learning curve for me when I completed an Executive Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch. The biggest highlight of my life was when my two children were born, Sandi – 2000 and Likho – 2005. It really matters to me at the end of the day when I go home to find someone waiting eagerly for me with a smile to steal my heart, and a hug to make my day.

Mpumi Williams - Student Advisory Officer Mpumi Williams - Student Advisory Officer: I am a past bursar of the ASF and come from a small Karoo Town called Beaufort West. I started working for the ASF in 2005 and am happy to know that I am growing along with the organization. Besides managing our growing database of bursars, I also render general admin duties as required, manage and co-ordinate all correspondence, maintain liaison with schools and learners and assist with grade 9 career guidance workshops. 2010 will see me assisting the FET Bursary Manager and I am very excited at being more involved with the college students in the public FET sector.  I completed my Diploma in Business Management at the College of Cape Town through TECSAT. My message for the youth out there: always program your mind for success and never give-up, if one dream dies then move on to another and always be happy with who you are!

Nontuthuzelo Ngcetane - Bursary Secretary Nontuthuzelo Ngcetane - Bursary Secretary: I completed my schooling in the Eastern Cape. In 2008, I completed my Secretarial Diploma at Northlink College through TECSAT. I joined the ASF in 2009 and I am happy to find myself in an organisation that makes a difference in the lives of underprivileged African scholars. My job is to maintain liaison with schools and learners, render general administrative duties as required, manage and coordinate correspondence and manage the schools database. My message for the youth out there:  do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

Zena Stanfliet - Bursary Secretary Zena Stanfliet - Accounts Manager: I joined the ASF in 2003 as Accounts Manager where my primary task is to manage the full accounting function. I fondly recall how “back in those days” the thousands of payments made to our schools were all still done manually. With my accounting background, I was able to implement payments on a computerised system that allowed for a more streamlined process – thank heavens for technology! I am passionate about the ASF and the work it does and look forward to the organization’s continued growth.
