UCT BAHA'I SOCIETY CHARITY FORMAL IN AID OF ASF LEARNERS |
For more than a century, Baha'i communities around the globe
have been working to break down barriers of prejudice between people and have
collaborated with other like-minded groups to promote the model of a global
society. At the heart of their belief is the conviction that humanity is a
single people with a common destiny. The Founder of the Baha'i faith states that
"the earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens". Baha'i communities
believe that "to acquire knowledge and learning is the sacred right of all...",
which ties in beautifully with our motto that "access to education is a basic
human right".
The UCT Baha'i Society annually hosts a formal function where
members meet to enjoy an evening of socialising outside of their busy academic
schedule. This year (2011), it was decided to enhance the purpose of the social
event - the 1st Annual "UCT Baha'i Society Charity Formal" was launched.
Proceeds were collected in honour of those Baha'i imprisoned in Iran for the act
of educating women and children. The proceeds were donated to the ASF to provide
funding to young students in the greater Cape Town area. We gratefully
acknowledge the Care, the Commitment and the Sacrifice made by those who are
incarcerated. We know that the letters written by the sponsored bursars will
serve as a source of comfort.
