FET COLLEGE ... SKILLS FOR LIFE
|
What happens after Matric? Which way?
Some of our learners will go to
universities or universities of
technologies. but what about the others?
South Africa needs skills. We need
people who can fix things, who can
produce crops and drive large vehicles,
who can keep accounts, manage an office,
become an electrician or mechanic. We
have so much “people potential” in this
country - all we have to do is to
provide an opportunity for training.
WE GIVE HELP AT FET COLLEGE
|
FET skill-training is one of our top
priorities. In 1998, we established
TECSAT as a separate organization to
manage FET college bursaries
specifically for the Western Cape. At
present, because there is no other
organization doing the work, African
Scholars’ Fund is supplying the FET
bursaries for the Eastern and Northern
Cape and parts of the North West.
Consequently our FET work has already
more than doubled and we expect further
growth in this sector of our work.
FET bursaries are being managed by our
fund as an entity distinct from the
school bursary work because the
criteria, the schedules, the fees,
qualifications – everything – is so
different! Student Support Workshops are being
offered to the African Scholars’ Fund
FET students addressing issues such as
attitude, self awareness, goal setting,
time management, study skills, the
winning CV, the job search process and
interview skills.

This fund provides bursaries and
guidance to students at public FET
colleges in the Eastern, Northern and
southern part of North West Provinces.
FET college courses are shorter, less
expensive and very effective in leading
to employment.
Public FET Colleges offer the following
courses:
Engineering Studies e.g.
Electrical, Plumbing, Civil, Motor
Mechanics, Fitting & Machining etc.
Business Studies e.g. Financial,
Business or Marketing Management,
Secretarial, Public Relations and Human
Resources.
Art & Design Studies e.g.
Jewellery Design & Manufacture, Ceramic
Design, Graphic Processes/Printmaking
and Textile Design/Fibre Art.
Utility Studies e.g. Clothing
Production, Cosmetology, Educare,
Haircare, Hospitality & Catering
Services, Interior Decorating & Tourism.
